Cousiño Macul: Wine tour in the city

One of the hallmarks of the city of Santiago is the Cousiño Macul Vineyard. Created in 1856, it offers tours and tastings, without the need to leave the city.

With more than 150 years of history, the Viña Cousiño Macul has witnessed the changes that the city of Santiago has experienced. It was founded by Isidora Goyenechea de Cousiño, who holds the title of being the first woman to carry out a business in the wine sector.

Cousiño Macul was a pioneer in the export of national wines, positioning the country as a reference in the industry since the end of the 19th century. In addition, it is the only one that is still managed by its founding family.

Although the vineyard has a long existence, it has maintained an average production of around 250 thousand boxes of wine per year.

Visiting the vineyard is a must. Inserted in the middle of the city, it is very easy to get there. To cross it you only have to take line 4, get off at Quilín station and then a taxi to the place.

Cousiño Macul offers tours from Monday to Saturday (closed Sundays and holidays) in which you can taste excellent quality wines, which are the result of the richness of the soils and the great climate of the Maipo Valley.

The place is of great attraction, since the itinerary of the tour, considers a visit to the original winery of the vineyard, which was built in 1872 by architects who traveled 2 from France, exclusively for this purpose.

The construction is made by a refined system of double walls, which allow a constant flow of air, which is ideal for the maturation of the barrels.

During the tour the history of the vineyard is explained and how the way of production has evolved, which allows to know in a didactic way the changes that have been generated in the way of making wine.
An unmissable that, without a doubt, is worth visiting.
