This essay is going to explore how to write a good character analysis essay. The basic form of a character analysis focuses mainly on the investigation of a single character from a literary context. The most important step in this analytical process is to find out many pieces of evidence to fully analyze the character. The essay has to reflect from the start the basic elements of a good analysis essay that include the identification of a focus in the analysis of a specific aspect of a character from a particular literary realm; the most important step in the analysis is going to map the body of evidence. This part will include the most subtle information and details from the piece of literature to support my analysis.
The first part of a character analysis essay is finding a focus and a specific perspective from which to analyze the character. In order to write a successful analysis, I should focus, for example, on the moral traits of character from a particular literary context. For instance, I am expected to investigate the moral dimension of Iago as an evil character in Othello by Shakespeare or to delve into the psychological realm of Don Quixote as an idealistic character.
The second part of a character analysis essay is the body of evidence that support what I am writing. Different notes that I have gathered throughout the investigation of the main traits of the studied character can be incorporated in this part so as to introduce much information to the reader. The incorporation of evidence helps the reader identify with the main character. Examples of information include who the character is, their cultural background, their motivation and the role they played in the piece of literature.
The concluding part of this essay sums up the main idea gathered about a particular character. I want to end the essay with a good question that tests the reader’s extent of identification with what has been introduced to them.
